Our ministry is so hard to explain because we are and have been involved in so many different activities over these past 30 years, as you can see, with our family, yours, mine, theirs and others combined to make one of the most precious families ever. Of course I am a little biased in my opinion, but that’s what dads do. Now to ministry, with a touch of the past to start us off. I have been involved with almost all aspects of leadership here in Japan from a local ministry location leader to Tokyo Director, Japan Chairman and East Asian leadership team (which includes China, Korea, Taiwan, Mongolia and of course Japan). About seven years ago I turned over most of the responsibilities and thought I would concentrate on our local ministry and family. Well, that did not last too long, thanks to a wonderful Australian lass named Julie Spence, who is the dean of the University of the Nations School of Arts and Sports. We met in Thailand a few years ago for the first time, and to make a long story short, I am working more and more in one of my passions, sports.
Specifically
Locally we are working in our grade school with an afternoon program, coaching basketball, teaching English to all ages from 3 to 73, and just living in our community daily. A few years ago we started a café in central Tokyo with a Japanese young man, Hirotake Watanabe, called Café Decision http://geocities.yahoo.co.jp/gl/hirotake32773 and now it has turned into what they call in Japan, a Live House, which is, live concerts, movies, parties every week on Friday and Saturday, a Bible study on Tuesdays, and a Fellowship called Decision One on Sundays. One more thing that we have done is host various teams from churches, YWAM and other groups, and one of those teams had a young man with a great passion for Japan, Matthew Hoffman. He is working in most of the things we are doing and is a great asset to YWAM NET (Northeast Tokyo). Also a few years ago I was making trips to Mongolia to teach in various YWAM schools where I ran into a wonderful young lady, Sarah, who was serving as my translator. Again, long story short, she and her family are now working with us here in Japan, leading worship, doing homepages, working with many local Mongolians, and seeing many saved. They also are involved in the community, their children attending the local schools.
Internationally, I am working with sports ministries, as I said, and this year that ministry brought me from Chiang Mai, Thailand to Alexandria, Egypt. Most of what I am doing now is communicating with the many sports ministries around the world, encouraging and seeking the Lord as to how we can put together seminars, courses and degrees, to better equip people for the ministries they are working in. Additionally I amworking with many other sports organizations with various sports related ministries, Olympics, World Cup, and other outreaches, training of coaches, players and fans.
This is enough for now, but please if you have any questions, ideas, or if you want to stand with us prayerfully and financially, contact us!!
DECISION ONE
We have made contact with hundreds of people over the years and about a year ago started Decision One Fellowship which is turning out to be rather international little church with people from Japan, Mongolia and others. We hold a church service every Sunday evening in Kanda at a small live house cafe called Decision. (www.artcafedecision.com).
Rejoice with us as we celebrate the very first baptism of the fellowship. 5 Mongolians, a Japanese guy and an American named Matthew Hoffman.
